Angelino Heights Travel Guide

Angelino Heights is a small, hilly district in Los Angeles just east of Echo Park. It was actually the city’s first suburb, established after a real estate boom in the 1880s. The district was once connected to downtown by electric streetcar. Many of the elaborate Victorian era residences that were built during this period are still around, relatively well-kept. This is perhaps the main attraction of Angelino Heights – observing the turrets, pediments, and wraparound verandas that characterized the Victorian style of architecture. The highlight is the Sessions House at 1330 Carroll Avenue, which is a Queen Anne masterpiece with Moorish influences. It has circular moon windows and decorative glass.[1]
