Avalon is the only town in Santa Catalina Island. It hugs the hills around Avalon Bay and is packed tight with a tapestry of colorful houses, bungalows, restaurants, hotels, and souvenir shops. The town has over 3,000 people. Cars are restricted in Avalon and the streets are used mostly by pedestrians and visitors on rented golf carts. The Green Pleasure Pier is the scene of anchored glass-bottomed boats, which depart regularly during the week to take tourists for marine life viewing along the coastline. Other tours take visitors to see the colonies of sea lions and the schools of fly fishes. Buses also venture into the island’s interior wilderness, departing from the Arabian horse ranch in the town’s center or from the Catalina Airport.[1]
