DO NOT EVER EAT HERE!!!!!!! I am a local here on St. Simons and tonight was the first and LAST time I will EVER eat at Blue Water. The MANAGER is absolutely the WORST I have ever experienced. First of all I know about the restaurant business because I have worked in it for 9 years. I am a waitress myself at a great restaurant. I have a WONDERFUL owner/manager that I work for who would never have treated our customers the way I was treated tonight at Blue Water. Here's what happened: My friend and I decided to go and eat there because we had never tried it. We went and the first thing I noticed was that there wasn't anyone there (on a FRIDAY night.) I ordered the "fresh catch" with steamed veggies and black beans and rice and my friend ordered a hamburger and fries. Right when we got our food, it looked gross to me. The veggies were brown/colorless and mushy. The fish looked like cafeteria food. I tasted it anyway and lo and behold my eyes were telling the truth. The veggies were completely gross. No flavor/color/taste. Were very mushy and over cooked. The fish blackened flounder was FROZEN. You could taste the difference. Especially KNOWING the difference working at a restaurant where the fish really is FRESH! Anyway...I took 3 bites of the food total and couldn't eat it; neither should I have. The waitress came over to check on us and asked if I needed a box and I told her no that the food wasn't good at all. She went and got the manager, and as soon as she came over, it was already as if she was on the defense. I told her that the veggies were way overcooked/mushy/colorless/no flavor and that the fish wasn't good either. She couldn't have cared less. She asked what was wrong with it and I had to repeat what I told her and all she said was would you like us to cook you more vegetables? I said no and told her she could take it because I wasn't going to be able to eat it. The food quality and preparation was extremely poor, especially for the price. She said well I'm sorry you don't like it and took my plate. I was expecting her to ask if I wanted anything else or for her to offer to take it off of my bill, but she said nothing of the sort. So, when the check came, I was baffled to see that $16.95 was on my bill! So, I asked the waitress to ask the manager to come back over, and when she finally got there, she merely stood at the end of our table just staring at me. I said, I'm sorry, I'm not trying to come across rude or be difficult in any sort of way, but I don't think that it's fair that I am charged full price for something I took three bites of and told you was absolutely unappetizing. With a grin, she answered saying, Well, ma'am, I tried the fish and so did the kitchen members, and there was nothing wrong with it. We've sold a lot of these tonight, and no one else has complained (which is obviously a lie--no one was even there, and it was disgusting). She asked again what was wrong with it, and I told her I did not enjoy it, and that the menu said it was fresh catch, and it was CLEARLY frozen. I asked her point blank if it was fresh, and she said yes, and I told her, I'm sorry, but I can tell the difference between fresh and frozen, and this was frozen and gummy. All very nicely, I told her I am a waitress at another restaurant, and I eat fresh fish all the time, and this was absolutely frozen, and I was not paying for it. She even admitted that the vegetables looked bad and that they had been overcooked. So my friend asked, well, can you at least take the vegetables off the price? We'll be satisfied with that. She said NO!!!! He then said, you just admitted that the vegetables looked bad (which is an understatement)! And you're seriously going to charge her for them? Then I asked her if she would've eaten that had it been served to her. She pretended to think about it, then said yes; she also said yes, she would eat the fish. I asked her to please take it off the bill, at least half; she refused. She said it was not their policy. She actually said, "We bend over backwards for our customers if something is wrong with their food and make sure that they are satisfied," to which I replied, "obviously not, because I am extremely dissatisfied. If the food was good, i would've eaten it." Then she had the nerve to say, "There is nothing wrong with your food. You just don't like it. But you ordered it, and you have to pay for what you ordered." I told her I was not going to pay for it, and she said well she was not going to take it off the bill. After much dispute, I finally told her that I was going to use my local status to discourage anyone and everyone from ever eating there. Thus my blog post. She was unconcerned. I paid for my bill and left a note for that manager letting her know in full detail how I felt and that I would never be returning, nor would anyone I know. I also encouraged her to take a hospitality management course on customer service. Hopefully, she'll take my advice. NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT EVER EAT HERE!!!!!!!
