Bribir is a central place of the Municipality of Vinodol that is covering 53 settlements. It lies at the 86 m height above sea level, on the road Novi Vinodolski-Fuzine. It took rise at the place where there was Liberian and classical Varvarie. It used to be a property of the Zrinski and the Frankopans. The square tower, built in 1302, is still preserved. Inside the tower, there is a bust of Josip Racic - the famous botanist and first president of Serbia Academy of art and science.
This is his birthplace too. The Subic family were also here as the fortified place was quite secure for a long time. It is where from the family got the other name Bribirski. In the baroque church of St. Peter and Paul, built in 1743, the pictures of Josip Palma and Marije Berdik are carefully kept. You can stay in the motel "Vagabundi" in the nearby Ravno. Bribir is also the birthplace of Julija Klovic-Croate, the biggest representative of European miniature plastic art of 16th century.
