Brookline Travel Guide

Brookline is a suburb of Boston, located southwest of the big city. Though it is a suburb, it has a mixed urban and suburban feel to it, offering city amenities like shops and parks mixed in with apartment complexes and large estates. It is also known as the residence of many of the city’s scientific and academic professionals working at the medical centers and research institutions in Boston. Brookline was once the “richest town in America” during the 19th century. Many of the city’s elite build summer mansions here. Today, you’ll find a large Russian and Jewish population in Brookline.

The main tourist attraction of Brookline is the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site. This is the historical site of the former president’s birthplace, located in suburban Brookline. The site features a museum within Kennedy’s childhood home, which has been restored to the way it looked in 1917, the year Kennedy was born. Audio guided tours narrated by his mother, Rose Kennedy, are offered.
