Erdut Travel Guide



Erdut is the municipal centre on the 158 m above the sea level with 1460 inhabitants, and located by the Osijek - Apatin (Backa, Yugoslavia) road. In the vicinity there are the archeological finds of the prehistoric, Roman and the middle ages. On the steep hillside above the Danube river there are the ruins of the middle ages castle recorded in the 1427. There is a Sceh family's palace built in the 19th century. Erwin Sceh, the last inhabitant of this palace let to rearrange the fourth part of it to the themselves crypt. In the place there are also a hospital for the tuberculosis healing, the wine cellars a few resorts. In the vicinity there are the vineyards they get high graded white and red wines: grasevina, burgundac traminac i rizvanac. Near to the older there is the Novi Erdut located by the railway's bridge over the Danube river going to the Bogojevo settlement (Backa, Yugoslavia).

Immediately in the beginning of the Homeland war in the 1991, Erdut was bombarded, destroyed and it's inhabitants from their home expelled. In the recent Croatian history Erdut will be known by the "Erdutski sporazum", the agreement between the Croatian government and the rebelled Serb's minority aimed to peaceful reintegration this areas into unique territory of Croatia state.
