South of Bunker Hill is a district that centers around Grand Hope Park. The park itself is a grassy public space between Hope Street and Grand Avenue. The highlight of the park is the red and yellow clock tower surrounded by wooden canopies and concave fountains decorated with gilt mosaics.[1]
Museum of Neon Art
Next to the Grand Hope Park is the Museum of Neon Art at 501 W. Olympic Boulevard. The museum is recognized for its visage of Mona Lisa smiling through yellow and blue neon squiggles. The museum showcases contemporary neon designs and kinetic art.[2]
Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising
Across the park is the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising at 919 S. Grand Avenue. This institute has a collection of thousands of costumes and apparel, including Russian jewels, French gowns, and shoe art that are on display. The highlight is the annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design show from February to April, which showcases great outfits from the heydays of cinema to the present.[3]
Staples Center
The Staples Center at 865 S. Figueroa Street is also located in the Grand Hope Park district. This arena hosts basketball and hockey games, home to NBA’s LA Lakers and LA Clippers, and the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. Many concerts are also held at the Staples Center, especially during the summer.[4]
