Dancers of the Plains

Sarah says 15 years ago
I here they are going to have a Native American Pow Wow June 20, 2009 that will be held at the Archway annually after this June. They are going to have dancing, drumming, food, crafts, and interactive demonstration. The cost is free will donation to the Dancers of the Plains. The Arch will still cost, but to go to one event does not mean that you have to go to the other. I hope to see you all there.

Native American Pow Wow

Dancers of the Plains is an entertaining and educational Native American event, featuring Native American dancing and drumming by the Plains tribes. In 2009 the Great Platte River Road Archway welcomes the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma back to their traditional homeland for the featured tribe of the first exhibition of a pow wow celebration. Visitors can also learn about Native American life on the plains from primitive-life exhibitors and vendors, enjoy American Indian style food and crafts, and more. Admission to the primitive exhibitor and pow wow exhibition area will be by free-will donation. Guests can also tour the Archway at regular admission prices. For more information visit www.archway.org.

Join us on June 20, 2009 for the Pawnee Powwow with 16 or 17 Pawnee dancers. Starting 2010 we will be making this a yearly event with several Native American nations competing in the powwow.

Great stop to make for any family traveling. I loved the characters that greet you when you walk in. Everything was done very well and I can't wait to go back.

The Archway is a relative newcomer to Great Plains tourism, installed in grand style one night five years ago and opening in 2000. Using giant multi-wheeled transporters, the 1,500-ton, 309-foot structure was rolled across the highway in one piece on the night of Aug. 16, 1999. The interstate was cl...
