No title - expert review Hi-Austin rests on the shores of Town Lake, providing a peaceful setting only minutes from downtown Austin. Guests are only footsteps away from bus lines, the hike & bike trail, and the Colorado River - bikes, canoes, and kayaks are conveniently available for rent. A 10 minute journey could take you... bootsnall.com
Clean place to stay - user review Nothing fancy, but for a youth hostel, it's not bad at all. Great location by the river, so you can jog and hang out close by. Short cab ride to the best nig... austin.citysearch.com
No title - user review Bathroom: The hostel used to be an ex swimming pool place, and the bathroom area remains unrenovated. It almost look likes those showers you see in prison (in the movies) where there is one central pipe and multiple showerheads come off that. There are some plastic divider curtains but there isn't r... hostelz.com
No title - user review Go here, if for no other reason than that Austin rocks and this is practically it's only hostel. That said, HI Austin is a clean, comfy little place on the lake, with very convenient access to downtown, 6th Street and the Greyhound Bus. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. It has a nice ... hostelz.com
No title - user review HI Austin is the best hostel I've stayed in within the US. I've hosteled in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and DC.The hostellers I met at HI Austin are friendly. The common area is large and conducive to conversation. The bus stop is nearby, and the lake is a few hundred feet away (and there is a boa... hostelz.com
No title - user review I had a good time here. It's not too bad to get into the centre of Austin from here, but it's a bit of a walk to the bus stop. The only other problem with this place was the lockout do they really need six hours to clean four small dorms Being on the lake is nice. I met some good and friendly people... hostelz.com
No title - user review I had a really good time at this hostel it's clean, relaxing, and in a really good location by the lake. No idea about a housing project, I walked back there at 3 a.m. most mornings and felt perfectly safe. The lockout is a bit annoying but it's only four hours and the sofas are great for a quick af... hostelz.com
No title - user review I have stayed here on three different occasions because it's pretty much the only game in town. I love the music scene in Austin and put up with the hostel for a few days. I would stay much longer if the management was realistic. All guests who are still sleeping are rudely awakened about 10 a.m., s... hostelz.com
No title - user review I have stayed in HI dozens of times all across the US and this was the furthest thing from a nice place to stay there is. The people I met were wonderful a couple of Swedish folks, and a guy from Holland were the only redeeming qualities. The staff would be better suited working at a prison camp. Th... hostelz.com
No title - user review I stayed here for nearly two weeks in order to go to the yearly SXSW music festival, which does set Austin apart from cities like Chicago and San Francisco in a very big way! Anyway, I felt safe there. I didn't notice any 'housing project' nearby, just a large apartment complex. The bus stop from do... hostelz.com
No title - user review I went to this place on the basis of some positive reviews, but I felt let down. Austin itself is pretty boring compared to other parts of the US. There's just not much to do here. The music really isn't anything special, compared to places like Chicago and San Francisco. There seem to be a couple o... hostelz.com
No title - user review My only comment is this: for just ten more dollars you can get your own nice motel with cable TV, a bathtub, and air conditioning. $21.75 seems a little high for no privacy and a sterile atmosphere. There are loads of cheap motels on I 35 north of Austin, about five to six miles out. You can't miss ... hostelz.com
No title - user review Some guidebooks rate HI AUSTIN as the highest rated hostel within the USA. I was completely disappointed. The staff are not only cold, but go out of their way to be rude. For example, I had to wash two dishes right before leaving after a two night stay. I politely asked one of the employees, who was... hostelz.com
No title - user review This hostel is absolutely awesome! The bright and airy living room overlooks the Colorado river and is filled with comfy couches, perfect for lazing around. There's books in the library and the kitchen is well stocked. The staff were totally friendly and helpful and gave great suggestions on things ... hostelz.com
No title - user review This place sits on a lovely lake in a city park with comfy patios, which are nice for socializing. Some of the front desk people are friendly enough, too. And Austin truly lived up to its reputation as a fine town for the live music scene one of the best I have encountered so far. BUT the bloke who ... hostelz.com
No title - user review Went on a two month trip around the U.S.A. over the summer, stayed in sixteen hostels over all and this was by far the worst hostel of them all. The woman behind the desk with blonde, curly hair is offensively rude to most people. Yes the hostel is located next to a nice river but its also located n... hostelz.com
No title - user review You have to stay at this hostel. I was here in late August '04 and it really is beautiful. The hostel has a large common area, with air conditioning, which is great when the heat outside is unbearable!! There is also a fine TV area upstairs. You can feel free to do very little at this hostel, except... hostelz.com
