No Merci'

Rick says 14 years ago
Several dealings with restaurant and always attitude with an accent. First occassion was with my domestic partner several years ago for our anniversary and the staff were just plain homophobic. When people say Gay Paris they must have excluded Le Soir restaurant. Viva le Difference! We were treated like enemies and we are not flamboyant. I felt like I was in Les Miserables and this French Mademoisel made me want to storm the Bastille. Food was tasty but service and staff attitude "fowl'ed" the meal. In the past week I figured I would raise the white flag, accept the gift of the Statue of Liberty and tried to make a reservation for restaurant week. I had called at opening at 5pm and was told Un monsieur would be put on a list and I would receive a call back shortly as they had to review seating times and availability. I was asked for a range of time I would like to be seated and all sounded fine. I called again later that evening as the no accent young lady I spoke to ealier evidently forgot my friends and I were waiting to verify our fabulous dining experience to come. Must have been a time zone issue even though I live in Bayport the same town as Le Soir. A very uptight french female told me if my name was on the list like the other young lady had told me that I would be called tomorrow as she was too busy to deal with me now. I called at 5pm the following evening and spoke to the same french woman from the day prior and I explained my name was put on the list for a reservation and she said she did not see my name for a reservation. I reminded her I was to receive a call back as my name was placed on the list and at that point the charm just exuded from her french speaking lips. We don't have a list and that would be ridiculous as we do not have the time to return customers calls.I think she might have forgotten who pays for the butter on her french bagette. I figured she did not have her afternoon latte at the outdoor sidewalk cafe overlooking Notre Dame as she was the one who told me if my name was put on the list I would be called back. Well Viva La France! I wanted to tell her she could kiss my Eifel Tower.
Well I guess I will have to wait for Le Blood Pressure to lower itself before I once again try for an experience at Le Soir. I have had several experiences but none got me to a delicious Pate.
Well merci my fine French accented woman and I do hope you are treated with some good old American Hospitality yourself real soon.
Sushi anyone?

Long Island Food Blog: Le Soir
For an appetizer I got foie gras (terrine) with figs and toast. When it came out, juice from the figs was running all over the plate, and the presentation was otherwise nothing special. (Not that this is a bad thing, but it was a sign that things there are not done with the utmost care--such as, e.g...

“Lamb was excellent. Appetizers, escargot, excellent. Not too pricey considering the meal. Wasn't cheap by any means but wasn't overpriced either. Small dining area, tables fairly close but atmosphere is nice. Quiet, hushed conversation, definitely not for children. Couples will enjoy a nice m...

Le Soir Restaurant in Long Island, NY - AOL City Guide
If you own a beret, you may want to wear it to Le Soir, as it only gets more French than this in the eating houses of Paris. The dining room is quaint and pretty, with plants, paintings and antique furniture. The menu impresses with traditional hors d'oeuvres such as pate de campagne and escargots B...
