Mont-Carmel is a village in the Evangeline Region, which had been settled by French-speaking Acadians in the 1700s before they had to escape into the forests when the British began deporting them.[1]
The village and its surrounding area is characterized by brightly painted houses with Acadian flags. There is also a French-language theatre in the area, not to mention an Acadian Pioneer Village. This pioneer village encapsulates the look, feel, and décor of the bygone era. It is a reconstruction of an Acadian log settlement from the 1820s. A restaurant that adjoins the village specializes in Acadian cuisine.[2]
