I guess I'm a bit of a Russia enthusiast so visiting Moscow was obviously a no brainer. Visiting the Tretyakov Gallery was quite breath taking with all its pre-revolution artwork preserved. I'm glad that the Russians didn't have a cultural revolution like the Chinese or all of these precious artworks would have been destroyed. I also went to see the Moscow State University which is just this huge building built by Stalin. There really is no other university like it. Red Square was also magnificent, although I think seeing it on TV and in photos too much somewhat dulled the effect it could have had. As a huge fan of the revolution though, I had to visit Lenin's Mausoleum where my historical hero lay. I wonder if that really is him. He looked so plastic. I guess they had to do it to preserve him. Moscow was a great visit and I recommend it to all travelers who would normally not consider Russia as a destination. |
