Savudrija is a touristy place with 350 inhabitants on the road from Umag to Pula, famous for its 36 meters high lighthouse built in 1818. This was the first light-house on the Istrian coast. A lighthouse has stood on this location even in the ancient Greek times. Savudrija is the furthest western point of the Croatian coast. Charming beaches and thick forests have caused a number of beautiful tourist facilities to be built here.
In the vicinity of the Savudrija lighthouse is the chapel of St. John, once a church with three aisles, which was completely reconstructed in 1826. The remains of Sipar, a Roman settlement destroyed by pirates in the 9th century can be seen some 4 km to the south of Savudrija.
