Sonkovici has the population of 700 and located near the Skradin - Benkovac road. The village of Prokljan is not far away. The above--mentioned lake was named after the village. The water in the lake comes from the River Krka, widely known for its natural beauties.
There is also an island in the lake, called Visovac. The dukes of Knin built a castle here in 1330. It was named Kljuc. The remains of the castle are still on Visovac. There is one more island in the lake with the ruin of Gavan's castle. The River Krka is also famous for the unique natural phenomena of Skradinski Buk, Roski Slap and a number of water-mills scattered along the river.
