University District Travel Guide

The University District or U District borders the canal north of Montlake. Its near 700 acres serves as the college campus for the University of Washington. The district is full of old Romanesque buildings. The main attraction is the Burke Museum, which has a famous collection of Northwest Indian art and artifacts and the Henry Art Gallery, which has a collection of textiles. Another draw of the University District is the Burke-Gilman Trail, which is a 30-mile bike and recreational path that is popularly accessed through the district. The University of Washington’s Waterfront Activity Center is another highlight of the area, a place where you can rent canoes and kayaks for use on Lake Washington.[1]
