Vrana is a place with a population of 1250 at an elevation of 223 meters above sea-level, situated 10 kilometers northeast of Biograd. Vransko lake is located in the fertile plains of this area near the caravane saraj (palace) Ma-skovica han, a rare example of Turkish architecture. It was erected in 1644 by the Turkish vizier Jufuf Maskovic, born in Vrana.
The remains of the Roman water-system which once supplied water for the antique Zadar are located in the vicinity of the palace. The ruins of the Ivanovac monastery and of a medieval templar town, where a number of historic battles took place, are situated above the Vransko lake.
"Riblja kuca" (Fish House) is a restaurant near the "Jezero" auto camp in the vicinity of the place. The Vransko lake is 14 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide. It is extraordinarily rich with eels and other freshwater fish species. This depression in northern Dalmatia is connected to sea by an 850 meters long channel. The Skrabica spring fills the lake with water.
