Narberth - In the Heart of Pembrokeshire Paul says 15 years ago |
Although the town of Narberth has grown around the walls of its stone castle the name of the town, derived from the pre-Norman name for the district Arberth, is older than the castle. Narberth is one of the places where the Prince of Dyfed held court according to the medieval Mabinogion. A Norman castle is mentioned in 1116. In 1652 a weekly market was commenced and proved very successful. By the late C18 Narberth had become an important post-town, situated on the Haverfordwest-Carmarthen turnpike road and the town's several hostelries were founded in this era. NARBERTH TODAY A UNIQUE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE Modern day Narberth is a welcoming, friendly, vibrant and busy town.
